Finding affiliates for your niche

By jdmunoz On November 12, 2009 Under Managing Affiliates

When attempting to find top-performing affiliates in your niche, it helps to do a considerable amount of research before you present a proposal to them.  For one thing, you’ll need to do that research in order to find those super affiliates, since they don’t exactly advertise that they are in fact super affiliates.

Additionally, though, you need to find out more about them, their sites, how they go about earning those commissions (i.e. do they like to promote high-priced items or low-priced items, what kinds of niche markets do they like to work in, etc.)  This can help you greatly in convincing them to join your affiliate sales force.

After all, just like a person who is interviewing to be hired by a company, it makes sense to find out as much about this potential affiliate as you can – after all, if this affiliate wouldn’t be a good fit for your products and your company, you’ll just be wasting your time (and his/hers as well) in recruiting him or her to join your affiliate program.  You want to add affiliates who will be beneficial to your affiliate program and to your profits, and that can only happen if they have experience and passion in selling products that relate to your niche market.  Otherwise, they will likely not be productive affiliates for you.

Plus, if you can mention certain aspects of the affiliate or the affiliate’s website(s) in your proposal, this will convince the affiliate that you actually took the time and interest to check them out and see that they were a good fit for your company and not just seek them out because they are a top-performing affiliate or because you happened to see or hear about them from some forum or blog.
